What Is Period Delay?

Understanding How Norethisterone Works

Period delay medication contains norethisterone, a synthetic version of progesterone. By maintaining high progesterone levels, norethisterone prevents the womb lining from shedding, so your period doesn’t start.

You should start taking norethisterone at least three days before your period is due and continue for as long as you need to delay your period (up to 17 days). It is not a contraceptive, so you should use another form of birth control if needed. Most women resume their normal cycle within three days of stopping the tablets.

Period delay tablets are generally safe but may cause mild side effects like nausea, headaches or breast tenderness. Do not take them if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have liver disease or thrombosis, and always consult your doctor if you have underlying conditions or take other medications.

Getting Started

Is Period Delay Right for You?

A period delay tablet may be suitable if you need to postpone menstruation for a short time. However, it isn’t suitable for everyone. If you have liver problems, a history of blood clots, or are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should not take norethisterone. Speak to your doctor if you have any underlying conditions or take other medications. Common side effects include nausea, headaches and breast tenderness. If you experience severe symptoms or allergic reactions, stop taking the medication and seek medical advice.Order Period Delay Tablets/period-delay
